Where to play chess around Newcastle

Wests City(formerly Newcastle Panthers)

Official chess club meets at 7.00 pm until late on Tuesday evenings at Wests City on the corner of King & Union Streets, Newcastle West in the ground floor area of the club near the reception desk and restaurant area. Kriegspiel is often played at this venue in accompaniment to the Royal Game.

Gallipoli Legion Club

This venue is where all weekend tournaments take place that are run by the NDCA, whether they are single day events or whether they are tournaments that are run over two days. The Gallipoli Legion Club is conveniently located 100 metres from Hamilton Railway Station in Beaumont Street for those players travelling from Gosford or Sydney and using NSW State Rail services.

Oasis Eatery

This venue is NOT organised by the NDCA as is Panthers Newcastle, but has became popular because of its European flavour of "Cafe & Street" style chess. Players gather between 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm on most Sunday afternoons at the Oasis group of eateries in Hamilton opposite the Kent Hotel. It may be advisable to bring your own chess set (and clock) if contemplating attending.
